Odds and Ends
- In no particular order
- Signe Wilkinson reassures us on the Alito nomination.
- Somewhere out in Utah, some people still really like Bush, as long as he doesn't make them learn about fancy kinds of mustard. Law of statistics, I guess.
- Now that the crazy Rev. Phelps (the godhatesfags.com dude who picketed Matthew Shephard's funeral) is picketing the funerals of troops killed in Iraq (because he said it's God's way of punishing America for being too gay), some states are considering laws against picketing funerals.
- The U.S. joined with its good friend Iran and backed "a Tehran initiative to deny UN access to advocates of sexual minorities' rights."
- A little while back, Atrios asked a really pertinent question, even more relevant now after the failed filibuster.
- Greg Saunders has a hilarious demonstration of why Mallard Fillmore is the unfunniest and laziest strip, like, ever. (via This Modern World).
- On the other hand, Get Your War On continues to make me laugh and cry at the same time.
- Matt Bors has a modest proposal.
- I've mentioned this before on my links page, but damn, Derek Kirk Kim draws pretty (and well-written) comics. So does Neil Babra.
- Joey Manley, the guy who founded Modern Tales, has a new project--a blogger-like service for webcomics creators, WebComicsNation. There is also apparently a blog called the Webcomics Examiner.
- While on the subject of webcomics, don't forget that Attitude 3 is coming out soon, featuring some of my favorite cartoons, such as Matt Bors' Idiot Box, Brian McFadden's Big Fat Whale, August Pollak's Xoverboard and Nicholas Gurewitch's The Perry Bible Fellowship.
- You might have heard about the Muhammed cartoons controversy (more here and here, in case that Wikipedia entry is messed up). I'm actually inclined to side with Shannon on this one. Matt isn't.
